From July 1, 2024, visitors to the city who stay overnight in Cologne's accommodation establishments will pay accommodation tax, regardless of whether the overnight stay is absolutely necessary for business or not. Unlike in the past, it will no longer be necessary to provide information about the purpose of the trip on a form at check-in. The tax rate will remain unchanged at five percent of the accommodation price. Rentals extending beyond this period will continue to be subject to the second home tax. There will be no double taxation.
